Group Study Areas

The Woodbridge Campus library is in transition.  Private group study rooms will be available when the library moves to our new space in the new building on campus (Fall 2013), but there are no group study rooms in our current space.  We do offer group study areas – large tables that can accommodate up to ten students at one table.  These are located near the center of the library, near the computers.

Noise

Group Study Noise

The library is a collaborative learning space, so we expect study groups to generate some noise.  We will not “Shhhhh!” you like librarians in movies.  At the same time, many of our students come to the library seeking a quiet place to study, so we ask that students follow these guidelines to promote the best learning environment for everyone:

  • Groups may make a reasonable amount of noise when collaborating on projects.
  • Loud personal conversations are better had in other public areas on campus.
  • If your group becomes too loud, a librarian will remind you to keep your discussion to a reasonable noise level.  If your group continues to distract other students, you may be asked to move to another part of the library.

Computer Area Noise

For some projects, groups may need to work on a computer together.  Please respect individual students who are working nearby.

Quite Areas

Quiet areas in the library are those with carrels (individual desks with dividers).  These are designed for individual quiet study.

Thank You

We appreciate your cooperation as we prepare to move to the new building.  This move will come with tremendous improvements to our space, including group study rooms and better quite areas.
